This week I had the pleasure of being invited to see Dungeons and Dragons: The Twenty Sided Tavern. This is my first theatrical review and I am excited to share my experience with you. The show was in the heart of the Magnificent Mile in Chicago at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place. There was a cast of 5 that lit up the stage for 2 adventurous hours. I was impressed by the stand out acting of Diego F Salinas and hilarity of Madalyn Murphy. The show was ran by the impressive Connor Marx (New Amsterdam) as the Dungeon Master. The show was a mix of a scripted story line mixed with improve, role-playing and interaction with the audience.

The night I went it took the audience a little bit to get into it but once we did there was hollering and yelling and chanting. The interactivity also involved everyone's cell phones. There was a QR code in the playbill that allowed everyone to participate in steering the story by voting on the actors next move, playing mini games, or adding flavor to the adventure.

People don't have to be familiar with Dungeons and Dragons to enjoy this show. Also people who have been playing for years will enjoy this show as well. The group does a great job at explaining the basics at the beginning of the show. Its enough to bring n those who are not familiar but not too deep as to loose them. There is live dice rolling that adds to the action and drama of the show. This show was silly, fun and very entertaining as a 30 year veteran of role-playing I enjoyed the show a lot. Dungeon and Dragons: The Twenty Sided Tavern will be playing in Chicago though September 28th 2025. The current tour schedule has the show moving through cities until March 2026 including Boston, LA, San Diego, and Philadelphia.
