Wanted Wombats: A Game Preview That Pushes Your Luck

Did you know that wombats glow under UV light? Wombats are pretty interesting animals and make for a great card game. Wanted Wombats is the newest game designed by Kaya Miyano (Trio, Panda Panda). Barrel Aged Games is crowdfunding Wanted Wombats this fall (2025). One last wombat fact before we dive into the game. There was an unofficial mascot for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and his name was "Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat".

Setup

Wanted Wombats is a quick press your luck game for 2-6 players. Franky by the time you read this far in the preview for it you could have been taught the game. There are 30 cards in the deck and the cards are divided up int 4 different values 1,000, 3,000, 5,000, 10,000. The goal of the game is to become the first player to get to 15.000 points. All that needs to happen for the game to be ready to play is that the deck of cards need to be shuffled and place in the middle of the play area.

Game Play

All players need to do is guess the next card. on a players turn they will guess the value of the next card. If they guess it then they can keep going and guess another card. If not the card remains in the middle of the play area so that other players can gauge the probability of the next card.

A player can stop at any point and pass on to the next player, but whats the fun in that?

The push your luck aspect will have all the players on the edge of their seats. A player can stop at any point and pass on to the next player, but whats the fun in that? If a player manages to collect 3 1,000 point cards then it counts as 5,000. aside from that the cards are worth what they say on the card. If a player miss calls a 10,000 point card then all the cards that are on the table are shuffled back into the deck.

Thoughts

Wanted Wombats is a sick amount of fun packed in to a small pack of cards. Which makes it totally portable. I brought it over to a friends house and he played while he was grilling. The rules are simple and the game play fast making this the 2025 answer to Flip7 . Wanted Wombats is going to be my goto portable game due to the fast teach and the exciting play.

I suggest you get your over to the the kickstarter and get "notify on launch" so you can be one of the first to get Wanted Wombats. Theres also a lot of other goodies and games involved in this kickstarter. You cannot beat the amount of fun for the price.
