Last weekend we went over the tariff math on how the industry is being affected. Now we will look at the response from board game publishers. On April 21st Jamey Stegmaier announced that his company Stonemaier Games (Fishspan, Scythe) are suing the administration over the impact and legality of the tariffs. Jamey opened the suit for other publishers to join in the suit. Since yesterday the law firm has announced that they have the maximum number of clients that it can handle for this action. The details and list of publishers in the lawsuit are forthcoming.

The US tariffs on Chinese imports are a 145% tax. Simply put a game that costs publishers $10 will now be $24.50. Smaller publisher might not be able to import their games at all and larger publishers stand to lose a lot of money. This will cost the economy in the form of jobs, revenue, and diverse view points. Stonemaier stated that "for now, we will pay for warehousing in China store most of the US-bound products in the hopes that the tariffs will decrease by the time we need that inventory to replenish our supply in the US." There is a lot of action people are taking to protect our US based game industry and if you want to be involved you can share articles like this, call or write to your representatives and senators, or simply keep buying games if your able.
